Future Perfect sits down with PHIVOLCS OIC Usec. Renato Solidum, Pedro Center science researcher Rocell Vicente, and Datos Project information officer 3 Jo Brianne Briones to talk about the complex method of forecasting volcanic eruptions. Renato discusses the preparatory and precursory volcanic movements leading up to a hazardous eruption. He then features the solar-powered borehole seismometer used by PHIVOLCS to predict initial volcanic activity. Meanwhile, Vicente and Briones speak about the Insar instrument of Sentinel-1 satellite which provides centimeter-scale accuracy in maps of volcano's ground deformation. Lastly, Renato reveals PHIVOLCS is seeking additional satellite data of the Taal Volcano from the United States Geological Survey and the National Aeronautics and Space Admininistration.
