As a broadcast journalist for ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs, Niko Baua knows how it is like to dive headfirst into the hectic world of local news every single day. The Kapamilya network reporter begins his day doing research for his stories, conducting interviews with various personalities, and writing news reports before going on live television at night—all part of his daily grind.
At the same time, Niko Baua knows how it is like to dive headfirst into the waves—as a surfer. Interestingly enough, this surfer got introduced to the sport through his first love: journalism. Almost serendipitously, Niko Baua learned how to ride the waves while on assignment in Baler. He recounts that he was assigned to cover a storm that was expected to make landfall in the area. While waiting for the actual storm, he noticed that the locals were riding the waves, unperturbed by the coming heavy rains. He decided to give surfing lessons a try, and the rest, as they say, is history. Unable to resist the lure of the sea, he found himself signing up for further lessons in Zambales to hone his craft.
Catch Niko Baua on TV Patrol and Bandila, only here at the Kapamilya network.
