Proud of his Waray descent, Eugenio Romerica Abunda, Jr. left his hometown in Samar to pursue a college degree in Ateneo De Manila University. Unfortunately, he had to put his education on hold when his father passed away. He took in odd jobs to support himself and his family. He then landed a job as an assistant stage manager for the Metropolitan Theater where he helped mount some of the best stage plays in Manila at that time.
Within a few years, he gained training for public relations which prompted him to put up his own PR firm now known as Backroom, Inc. More years later, he became one of the most credible showbiz talk show hosts as well as a savvy talent manager for some of the top names in Philippine show business. To this day, Boy Abunda's integrity has helped in strengthening the advocacy for gender rights and equality.
