The Growling Tigers were tearing through the ranks in Seasons 75 and 76, showing inspired sportsmanship and blowing past the competition to take on Eagles and Archers alike in a serious bid for the championship. Season 77 was one that had the whole UAAP convinced that they were on the verge of a Tiger led dynasty. But as the games drew on, the UST squad managed a lackluster performance of 5 to 9 losses. It was a heartbreaking debut season for coach Bong De La Cruz that left him scratching his head wondering "what happened?".
Season 78 doesn't look it'll get any easier for the Tigers as top veterans move on and new recruits that have to learn the system enter the ranks. Thank fully, coach De La Cruz will be able to count on the 6 foot 5 African strong man Karim Abdul and Gilas Cadet veteran Kevin Ferrer to keep the team focused and directed. Both players are on their last year in the league and want nothing more than to end the show with a bang and a championship in the hands of the Tigers. And while the rookies this year show promise, coach De La Cruz will have the help of the legendary “Captain” Alvin Patrimonio, the Tiger's new assistant coach, in drawing out their potential.
The Tigers, this season, are walking in with the single minded intention of starting the Tiger dynasty that could have been last year. The pressure is on, more than ever, for the UST squad to bring on the game that defined the coach Pido “Fireman” Jarenco era. Will we see the Tigers finally take victory this season?
